Pakistan-Iran travel: New air route links Quetta with Mashhad and Zahedan
Service expected to ease pilgrim and business travel between the two Asian neighbours
DUBAI – In a major development for regional aviation, Iran Air’s inaugural Flight 826 (A319) from Mashhad via Zahedan landed at Quetta International Airport late Wednesday night to a grand water cannon salute.
The event marked the airline’s first-ever operation to Balochistan’s capital, ushering in a new era of Pakistan-Iran air connectivity and cross-border cooperation.
The arrival ceremony at Quetta International Airport’s State Lounge was attended by Balochistan Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhel as chief guest, alongside Iran’s Consul General Ali Reza Rajaei and senior officials from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and business community.

Governor Mandokhel hailed the launch as a “landmark step” in enhancing bilateral relations, trade, and tourism. “This direct air link will bring our nations closer and create new avenues for pilgrims, traders, and travellers,” he said. The event opened with the national anthems of both Pakistan and Iran, symbolising mutual friendship and cooperation.
Iran’s Consul General reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to advancing economic and social ties through greater transport integration, calling the route an example of growing regional collaboration.
Flight details
According to the Pakistan Airports Authority, Iran Air will operate the Mashhad-Zahedan-Quetta service once a week, every Wednesday, arriving in Quetta at 9:30pm. The inaugural flight carried 30 passengers on arrival and departed with 120, reflecting strong public interest in the connection.
A CAA spokesperson described the development as “a proud moment for Quetta International Airport,” noting that the new route provides a safer, faster, and more convenient travel option for religious pilgrims and business travellers alike.
